FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I know if I should apply for Trellis?
Trellis is for anyone who is exploring God's call on their life into full-time ministry. If you are passionate about Jesus and the local church, you sense a call to devote your life to serving Jesus through local church ministry, and you want to gain hands-on experience, Trellis is for you! Additionally, Trellis can help provide clarity around what specific ministry area God may be calling you to. With your placement at a local church, you will get ample opportunity to serve in and explore different ministry areas.
How does the application process work?
To start, you can fill out an online application here. This application will be reviewed by the Trellis staff. If you are chosen to move forward in the application process, you will hear from a Trellis staff member. They will conduct an interview over the phone or via video call. After that, you will be communicated with directly on whether or not you have been accepted into the program. You can learn more about the process on the Internship page.
Do I automatically get hired at the church I’m placed at upon completing the program?
The hub church you are placed at during your internship is going to be an incredible connection for you! This is where you can begin to build your network. While we do not guarantee any employment at your hub church, we will work with you upon completion of the program to help you find a full-time ministry role. The goal of Trellis is to train up the next generation of church leaders and send them out, so we will support you in your next steps the very best we can!
Will I be compensated for my work as an intern through Trellis?
Your benefits included in the Trellis program are...
- tuition & books
- housing
- coaching from your hub church
- 3 years of full-time ministry experience
While you will not be earning an income as a Trellis internship, the experience and degree you will be earning are invaluable!
Should I get a second job outside of my internship?
Your internship through Trellis is a full-time gig. Because so much of your expenses will be covered, our hope is that you are able to focus your time and attention on the ministry area you're placed in. However, if you need additional funds, we are happy to coach you in raising support (think Go Fund Me pages or local church or individual partners in giving) as well as applying for Federal Financial Aid, as needed.
How long is the internship?
An internship through Trellis is a 3 year, year-round program. Each internship starts at the beginning of the fall semester.
What are the hours each week?
Ministry, as you will learn early on if you become a Trellis intern, is not a 9am-5pm gig. It requires great fluidity and flexibility with your schedule. However, Sabbath is required, meaning 24 hours every week where you are resting from work. A schedule will be specific to your hub church and can be worked out upon your acceptance. Expect at least a 40-hour work week.
To cover programmatic, administrative, and processing fees, the cost for a Trellis intern is $3,000 per year ($9,000 for the program in its entirety).
What is the cost for the program?
Upon completion of your 3-year internship, you will also have completed your licensure and undergraduate studies at an accredited university. Completing the Trellis Internship means being equipped, empowered, and educated to move forward in ministry!
What does it mean to complete a Trellis internship?
The tuition covered by Trellis is only applied to our partner schools. These are accredited universities and incredible partners to the Trellis mission.
Is the tuition benefit applicable to any school of my choosing?
